Reading the Widgets

What each widget is counting, and which of them obey the date range.

Sixteen widgets ship in the default arrangement. They fall into three groups and a set of rankings, and the Manage Widgets panel files them under Stock and Charts.

Value

WidgetWhat it counts
Total Stock OverviewThe whole holding, split into available and reserved
Stock by WarehouseA total distributed across depots, with your primary one starred
Stock by CategoryThe same total grouped by item category, with each category's share

Health

Stock by Warehouse, Stock Aging and Dead Stock, and Stock by Category side by side. Stock Aging splits the catalogue into Fresh at 32 items and 97 per cent, Slowing at one item and 3 per cent, and Stagnant and Dead Stock at zero.
Stock Aging has four buckets, and the two on the right are the ones worth acting on.
WidgetWhat it counts
Stock StatusThe catalogue split into in stock, low stock, out of stock and inactive
Stock Aging / Dead StockHoldings bucketed as Fresh, Slowing, Stagnant or Dead Stock

Low stock is decided by each item's reorder point, so Stock Status is only as useful as those numbers are.

Rankings

A row of four ranking widgets. Top Selling Items lists items with units sold, quantity on hand and revenue, showing a Three-Phase Motor with 20 sold and 11.7 thousand pounds of revenue. Top Stocked Items lists a Deep Groove Bearing at 375 in stock. Recent Stock Adjustments lists adjustments with their reasons Expired Items, Audit Adjustment and Found Items and statuses Adjusted or Draft. Top Returns lists sales returns against customers with an Approved status.
Top Selling Items shows quantity on hand beside units sold, so a fast mover running low is visible in one row.

Activity

A row of four recent-activity widgets. Recent Shipments lists shipments with their customer, date and a status of In Transit or Shipped. Recent Receives lists purchase receives against vendors, all marked Draft. Top Vendors shows an empty state reading no vendor purchase activity in this period. Recent Packages lists packages with their customer and a Shipped status.
An empty widget says why it is empty rather than showing nothing, which is usually the date range talking.

Which widgets obey the date range

Obeys the range
Stock Movement, Top Selling Items, Top Vendors and the four recent lists. They count events, so a period is meaningful.
Ignores it
Total Stock Overview, Stock Status, Stock by Warehouse, Stock by Category, Stock Aging and Top Stocked Items. They read the position now.
Carries its own
Stock Movement and Top Vendors have a second picker beside their title, which wins for that widget alone.
