Introduction - My Leave Balance

What you have left to take, by leave type, and what each of the four figures counts.

A tour of My Leave Balance: one row per leave type, and why Remaining is not Total less Used.

Your balance is not one number. Each leave type your organisation runs carries its own, and each moves independently of the others. Time off in lieu running out has nothing to do with how much annual leave you have.

The My Leave Balance screen, headed My Leave Balance above the line View your leave balance details. A table lists seven leave types down the left, Annual Leave (AL), Sick Leave (SL), Parental Leave (PAR), Compassionate Leave (CMP), Time Off in Lieu (TOIL), Jury Service (JUR) and Unpaid Leave (UNP), against sortable columns Used, Remaining, Total and Pending.
Every leave type you are eligible for, whether or not you have any of it.

The four figures

The leave balance table on its own. Seven leave type rows against the columns Used, Remaining, Total and Pending. Annual Leave reads 8 used, 17 remaining, 25 total and 5 pending; Sick Leave and Jury Service each read 0, 10, 10 and 0; Compassionate Leave reads 2, 3, 5 and 0; Parental Leave, Time Off in Lieu and Unpaid Leave are zero throughout.
Note the column order: Total sits third, between Remaining and Pending, not first.
Columns on My Leave Balance
FieldWhat it does
UsedDays already taken and approved. This only moves when leave is actually granted.
RemainingWhat you can still apply for. Days held by a pending request have already come out of this.
TotalYour entitlement for the year, set by the leave policy your administrator applied to you.
PendingDays asked for but not yet decided. They are neither used nor available.

A type showing zero is not a fault

Several rows will read zero across the board, and that is normal. A leave type exists for the whole organisation, but the policy behind it decides who is granted any.

ReadingMeansWhat to do
Total 0No policy grants you this type.Nothing. It does not apply to your contract.
