Edit or Retire an Employee

Change details a block at a time, and take somebody off the active roster without losing their history.

Editing is done in place, one card at a time. Removing somebody is not editing at all: it is a status change, and it belongs to a different module.

Editing details

  1. Open the person from the roster and select Edit to change the record as a whole.

The action row on an employee record: an Edit button with a pencil, an Email button with an envelope, a Share button, a three-dot button for more actions, and a red close button.
  2. Or use the pencil on an individual card. Each block on the Personal tab carries its own, which is quicker when you are correcting a phone number rather than rewriting a record.

  3. Save. The change lands in the activity panel on the right, so there is a trail of who changed what.

Taking somebody off the roster

There is no delete on an employee, and there should not be. Attendance rows, leave history, training records and certificates all point at the record, and removing it would take those with it.

Three rows of the Employees list. Dermot Lynch of Engineering and Maintenance, a Workshop Technician, carries a red Notice Period status chip. Tomasz Wojcik of Finance, an Accounts Assistant, carries a green Confirmed chip. Kwame Boateng of Warehouse and Logistics, a Warehouse Operative, carries a red Notice Period chip.
Notice Period against two of three. The status is what marks somebody as on the way out, not a deletion.
StatusMeansWhat still works
ConfirmedEmployed and past probation.Everything.
ApprenticeshipOn a training contract.Everything; the status is for reporting.
Notice PeriodLeaving, with a last working day set.Everything, until the separation closes.
Retired or exitedThe separation has completed. The history stays readable; the person is off the active roster.

The right route out is Offboarding

Opening a separation records the leaving date and the reason, raises a clearance checklist, and sets the status for you once it closes. Starting there rather than editing the status by hand is what keeps the assets, the exit interview and the final attendance in step.
