Add an Employee

Put somebody on the roster, with the handful of fields that matter on day one.

The form is long and almost none of it is required. Two fields are, and a third decides how the person is reported on from then on.

  1. Select Add Employee on the Employees screen.

The Create Employee form, with the breadcrumb Worklink, Employees, Create Employee. A Basic Details section holds an avatar upload circle beside First Name marked required, Middle Name, Last Name, Nick Name, Email marked required, Phone, Date of Birth, Gender, Marital Status, Expertise and About Me. A Work Information section below holds Primary Department, Additional Depts, Primary Sub-dept and Additional Sub-depts. Cancel and Save Employee buttons sit at the foot.
  2. Fill in First Name and Email. They carry the red asterisk and they are the only two the form insists on.

The Basic Details section of the Create Employee form. Under the Basic Details heading, an avatar upload circle with a camera icon sits beside First Name, marked with a red asterisk, Middle Name and Last Name on one row. Below them are Nick Name, Phone, Gender and Expertise on the left, and an Email field marked required, Date of Birth, Marital Status and About Me on the right.
  3. Set the Primary Department. Worklink calls this the home department and uses it for reports and listings, so it is the field that decides where the person is counted.

The Work Information section of the Create Employee form. A Primary Department dropdown reads Select primary department, with the helper text The home department, used for reports and listings. Beside it an Additional Depts dropdown reads Select departments. Below, a Primary Sub-dept dropdown reads Select a primary department first, and an Additional Sub-depts dropdown reads Select sub-departments.
  4. Add a Primary Sub-dept if the department has any. The list stays disabled and reads "Select a primary department first" until the department above it is set.

  5. Select Save Employee. Everything else can be filled in later from the employee record.

Primary and additional are different things

Somebody can belong to more than one department. Only one of them is home.

Primary Departmentthe home one
Where reports count them and where listings put them. Every employee has exactly one.
Additional Deptsthe others
Departments they also work in. They appear in those departments' member lists without being counted as belonging to them.
Primary Sub-deptwithin the home department
The team inside the department, such as Workshop within Engineering and Maintenance.
Additional Sub-deptsthe others
Any further teams they work across.
