# Raise Leave for an Employee

File a request on somebody else's behalf, for phoned-in absence and backdated sick leave.

Not every absence arrives through the app. Somebody rings in sick, a manager agrees a day off in a corridor, a fit note turns up a week later. Raising the request yourself is how those end up on the record instead of showing as unexplained absence.

> **Before you start:**
>
> Whichever type you pick has to have days left against that employee's name. The rail beside the form shows their balances once you have chosen them.

- Select **Apply Leave** on the Leaves screen. Opened from here the form carries an extra field that the Self Service version does not.

![The Apply Leave form opened from the admin Leaves screen. A Request Details section holds an Employee dropdown reading Ade Fashanu (IRN-EMP-0010), a Leave Type dropdown reading Annual Leave (21 remaining), a Duration row of Full Day, Half Day and Multiple Days with Full Day selected, and a Date field. Reason and Attachment sections follow. A Balance Summary card on the right shows Ade's seven leave types, above an orange note reading Your reporting manager will be auto-notified upon submission.](https://www.sorviai.com/help/worklink/leaves/apply-for-employee.png)
- Choose the **Employee**. The list shows each person with their employee reference, which is what tells two people of the same name apart.

- Pick the **Leave Type**. The remaining figure in brackets is now that employee's, not yours, and the Balance Summary on the right follows the same person.
- Set the **Duration** and the dates, write the **Reason**, and attach a fit note if you have one.
- Select **Submit Leave**. It enters the queue as a pending request like any other.

> **Note:**
>
> **Raising it is not granting it**
>
> A request you file for somebody still has to be approved, and it appears in Approvals like theirs would. If you are entitled to decide it, you will find it there a moment later.

## Choosing the employee is the only real difference

Everything below the Employee field behaves exactly as it does when somebody applies for themselves, including the balance checks and the manager notification.

> **Tip:**
>
> **Check the balance before you commit to the dates**
>
> Picking the employee repopulates the whole Balance Summary. If the type you meant to use reads zero for them, choose a different one now rather than having the request bounce.
