# Introduction - Leave Approvals

The queue of requests waiting on a decision, and nothing that has already had one.

**Video coming soon:** A tour of Leave Approvals: a queue that empties as you work it, and the two buttons that empty it.

Leave Approvals is a worklist rather than a record. It holds requests that are waiting on you and drops each one the moment you decide it, so an empty screen means you are finished rather than that something is broken.

![The Leave Approvals screen, headed Leave Approvals above the line Review and approve employee leave requests. A grey 5 pending badge and a Central Warehouse location picker sit at the top right. The table has columns Employee, Leave Type, From, To, Days, Reason, Applied and Actions, and lists five requests, each ending in a green Approve button and an outlined red Reject button.](https://www.sorviai.com/help/worklink/approvals/approvals-list.png)

*Five requests, five decisions. There is no Status column because everything here is pending.*

## What is different about this screen

- **No status column** (there is only one): Every row is pending. A decided request is not here, which is why the column would say the same thing on each line.
- **The pending count** (top right): How many decisions are waiting. It drops as you work and is the quickest read on the screen.
- **Buttons, not a menu** (on every row): Approve and Reject sit inline, because deciding is the only thing this screen is for.
- **Leave type as a chip** (second column): Rendered as a tag rather than plain text, so annual and sick separate at a glance.

*The count and the depot together. Both change what the queue below contains.*

## The queue is scoped twice over

Two things decide whether a request reaches you, and only one of them is on screen.

| Scope | Set by | Effect |
| --- | --- | --- |
| The depot | The location picker, by you. | Only people based at the selected site appear. |
| The reporting line | The organisation chart, not by you. | Only requests routed to you appear, whatever the picker says. |
| Permission | Your role. | Without the leave-approval permission the screen is not in your menu at all. |

> **Note:**
>
> **An empty queue is the normal state**
>
> Requests leave as they are decided, so this screen is empty most of the time. If you expected something and it is not here, check Leaves: it may already have been decided by somebody else in the reporting line.

> **Tip:**
>
> **Read the Days column before the dates**
>
> The dates tell you when; the Days figure tells you what it costs, and it already accounts for weekends and holidays in the span. A request crossing a bank holiday costs less than its date range suggests.
