# Clear your unread conversations

Read a conversation, or mark one or several as read without opening them, so Unread holds only what still needs you.

Unread holds every conversation you haven't read yet, across every mailbox you can see. Clearing it is how the count beside **Unread** comes down to what still needs you.

> **Before you start:**
>
> **Unread** selected in the sidebar.

## Read a conversation

Select a conversation to open it. It leaves the Unread list, and the count drops by one.

## Mark one as read without opening it

- Point to the conversation in the list. A checkbox appears on its left and an eye icon on its right.
- Select the eye icon, **Mark as read**.

## Mark several as read at once

- Point to each conversation you want and tick its checkbox. To take the whole list, tick the checkbox beside **Unread** at the top instead.
- A bar above the list shows how many you have selected. Select **Mark as Read** in that bar.

**You're done when** the count beside **Unread** in the sidebar has dropped by the number you marked.

> **Note:**
>
> Opening a conversation, replying to it, or marking it as read are the actions that clear it. Assigning, tagging or snoozing a conversation leaves it in Unread. Unread is personal: a teammate reading a conversation clears it for them, and yours stays until you read it.
