# Track and deliver

Following a return until the customer has their equipment back, and closing the loop on the repair.

A shipment stays open until somebody says it arrived. Marking it delivered is a small act that closes the loop: it is what turns a repair from finished-in-the-workshop into finished-for-the-customer.

## Highlights

- **Update Status is the control**, and it sits in the shipment header.
- **Mark as Delivered is the one-step version** of what you will need most days.
- **Quick Actions offers the same thing**, so you rarely need the menu at all.
- **A delivered shipment records the date**, which is what a warranty period runs from.
- **The ticket does not close itself.** Move that separately.

## Move a shipment on

A Quick Actions banner behind it offers a Mark as Delivered button. The Shipment Details panel shows a Type badge reading Repair, a Tracking Status badge reading In Transit, a date of shipment of 25/08/2026, a delivery mode of Royal Mail Tracked 24, a delivery date of 07/09/2026, a tracking number of RM6245412871 and a shipping cost of 133.78 pounds.](https://www.sorviai.com/help/repairs/inventory/shipment-update-status.png)

*An in-transit return. Two ways to the same action, and Quick Actions is the shorter one.*

- **Open the shipment**

Go to **Shipments** and select it, or reach it from the package it carries.
- **Select Mark as Delivered**

It is in the **Quick Actions** banner and in the **Update Status** menu. Both do the same thing.
- **Or choose Update Shipment Status for anything else**

Use it to move a shipment into transit, or to correct a status set too early.

*Reading a shipment that is not yet delivered*

| Status | What it means | What to do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Pending | Booked, not collected | Chase the collection if the ship date has passed |
| In Transit | With the carrier | Nothing, unless it has been longer than the service promised |
| In Transit past its delivery date | The carrier is late | Track it with their number, then tell the customer before they ring you |
| Delivered | The customer has it | Close the ticket |

> **Warning:**
>
> **Marking a shipment delivered does not finish the repair**
>
> The ticket keeps whatever status it had. The equipment is back with its owner and the job still reads as work in progress until somebody moves it, usually to **Repaired and Collected**. Do the two together, or the workshop list will slowly fill with repairs that finished weeks ago.

> **Tip:**
>
> **The delivery date is worth being accurate about**
>
> It is the date a warranty period is counted from and the date a customer will quote back at you in a dispute. Marking a batch of shipments delivered on the day you get round to it, rather than the day they arrived, quietly moves every one of those dates.
