# Items

Custom fields on the parts and services a repair consumes, and where the rest of an item's settings live.

Items in Repairs are the parts and services a ticket consumes. This screen adds fields to them, and that is all it does.

Go to **Settings > Items**. One tab, **Custom Fields**.

![The Custom Fields tab of Items in Repairs Settings, headed Custom Fields with a Custom Fields Usage counter reading 0 of 135 at the right. A dashed panel reads No custom fields yet, above the line Add custom fields to capture information beyond the standard fields, with a blue Custom Field button inside it.](https://www.sorviai.com/help/repairs/settings/items-custom-fields.png)

*A new workspace starts empty. The usage counter is against the limit for the whole organisation.*

## Custom fields on an item

Add a field here and it appears on the item form, ready to capture what the standard fields do not: a manufacturer part number, a shelf location, a rebuild interval. The **Custom Fields Usage** counter runs against the limit for the workspace, shared with every other custom field you have created.

> **Note:**
>
> **This is the same entity the other apps customise, scoped to repairs**
>
> It is the same kind of screen the finance and inventory sides carry for their own items. The fields you add here are the ones a repairs workspace needs.

> **Tip:**
>
> **Add the field before the parts that need it**
>
> A field added later is empty on everything already in the catalogue, and backfilling it is manual. Deciding at setup is cheaper than deciding after a thousand parts.
