# Attach a file to a repair

Adding a photograph of the damage, a warranty paper, or anything else worth keeping beside the job.

A file is attached to the record it belongs to rather than uploaded into a folder of its own. Do it that way and the photograph is on the ticket when somebody opens it a year later, which is the whole point.

> **Before you start:**
>
> The record you are attaching to, and the file to hand. Photographs taken on a phone are the common case.

## Highlights

- **Attach from the record**, not from the Documents screen.
- **The activity panel takes files** alongside comments, on an open ticket.
- **Create forms have an Attachments control** in their footer.
- **Uploading from Documents leaves the file standalone**, attached to nothing.
- **Photograph the damage at intake.** It is the evidence nobody has later.

## From an open ticket

The activity panel down the right of a ticket takes files as well as comments, and anything added there is attached to that ticket.

![The Activity Panel of a ticket. A comment box with bold, italic, underline and mention controls sits at the top, with an Attach control, an Internal toggle and an Add button beneath it. Filter chips read All 11, Comments 4, Logs 7 and Attachments 0. The entries below are logs by Graham Whitfield timestamped 07/09/2026, reading status changed from In Progress to Repaired, location changed from Rotherham Central Warehouse to Sheffield Depot, assignee changed from unassigned to graham.whitfield@ironvale.co.uk, and priority changed from medium to high.](https://www.sorviai.com/help/repairs/tickets/activity-panel.png)

*Attach sits under the comment box, and the Attachments chip counts what the ticket already holds.*

- **Open the ticket**

Go to **Tickets** and select the job the file belongs to.
- **Select Attach in the activity panel**

It is beneath the comment box, beside the **Internal** toggle.
- **Choose the file**

  Your browser's file picker opens.
- **Add a comment saying what it is**

A photograph called IMG_4471 means nothing to the next person. A line such as *Gland seal as received, before strip-down* costs seconds and saves an argument.
- **Select Add**

The file is on the ticket, and the **Attachments** chip counts it.

## While creating a record

Every create form carries an **Attachments** control in its footer, so a file can go on at the moment the record is made rather than being added afterwards.

Customer Details holds one required Customer picker, and Ticket Details holds Ticket number, Location, Source and Est. Completion. Services and Parts tables follow. The footer holds an Attachments control at the left, beside Cancel, Mark as Rush Job and Save.](https://www.sorviai.com/help/repairs/tickets/create-ticket.png)

> **Tip:**
>
> **Photograph the equipment before it goes on the bench**
>
> Marks, dents and missing covers are only disputable if nobody recorded them. Two photographs at intake, attached to the ticket, settle every later conversation about whether the damage was yours. It is the single most useful habit in a service workshop, and it takes less than a minute.

> **Warning:**
>
> **Uploading from the Documents screen attaches the file to nothing**
>
> The **Upload** button on Documents puts a file into the workspace without a record behind it, which is why those rows read **Standalone**. It is fine for something genuinely general, and wrong for anything belonging to a repair: a standalone file will not appear on the ticket, and nobody looking at that job will know it exists.
