# The default roles

What Admin, Organizer, Editor and Viewer can each do in a team folder, and what each of the twelve permissions means.

Every team folder comes with the same four roles, ready to use. They can't be edited, and between them they suit most teams. Open **Manage** in a team folder and select the **Roles** tab to see them.

![The Roles tab of the Manage panel, under the heading Default Roles. Two cards are shown. Admin has all twelve permissions highlighted in green and reads 12 of 12 permissions enabled. Editor has View files, Upload files, Edit / rename, Download and View activity highlighted, the rest greyed out, and reads 5 of 12 permissions enabled.](https://www.sorviai.com/help/nest/team-folders/default-roles.png)

*Each card lists all twelve permissions. Green ones are part of the role.*

## The four roles

| Role | In short | Permissions |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Admin | Runs the folder | All twelve |
| Organizer | Runs the files and the people, but not the roles | Everything except Manage roles |
| Editor | Adds and edits files | View files, Upload files, Edit / rename, Download, View activity |
| Viewer | Reads and downloads | View files, Download |

## The twelve permissions

*Permissions a team folder role can include*

> **Note:**
>
> **Three permissions shape the menus rather than lock anything**
>
> Every member can see a team folder's contents, whatever their role. **Download** and **View activity** decide whether those entries appear on a member's menus, but a member can still download a file by selecting its row. Choose roles on the understanding that anyone you add can read and keep what's inside.
