# Create a team folder

Create a team folder from the New button on Team Folders. By default only administrators can; a setting can open it to everybody.

Creating a team folder looks just like creating a folder of your own, but where you create it decides what it is. A folder made on the **Team Folders** page is a team folder, and you become its owner.

> **Before you start:**
>
> You administer Nest or the whole organisation, or your administrator has let everybody create team folders.

- Go to **Team Folders**.
- Select **New**, then **Folder**.
- Enter a name for the team or the project, and select **Create**.

The folder appears in Team Folders with you as its only member, marked **Owner**. Open it and select **Manage** to start adding people.

## Who can create one

![The Team Folders page of Nest's settings. Under Creation, the switch Allow all users to create team folders is off, with the note When disabled, only workspace admins can create team folders. Under Defaults, Default member role reads Editor, with the note The role assigned to new members when they are added to a team folder.](https://www.sorviai.com/help/nest/team-folders/team-folder-settings.png)

*Off, as here, means only administrators create team folders. The default role is what new members start with.*

Your administrator controls both of these on the **Team Folders** page of Nest's settings. With the switch off, anyone else who tries is told that only admins can create team folders.

> **Note:**
>
> **The same rule reaches folders inside team folders**
>
> With the switch off, a member who isn't an administrator can't create a folder inside a team folder either, even when their role includes **Create subfolders**. Ask an administrator to create it, or to turn the switch on.
