# Stop sharing

Take a colleague off a file or folder's sharing list. The item leaves their Shared with Me straight away.

Every file and folder keeps its own list of the people it's shared with. Taking someone off it is one select, and it doesn't need them to do anything.

- Open the item's menu from its folder or from **Recent Files**, and select **Share**.
- Under **Shared with**, find the colleague and select the bin at the end of their row.

There's no confirmation. The colleague disappears from the list, the item leaves their **Shared with Me**, and a file they could download a moment ago no longer downloads for them.

## What it doesn't undo

- **Copies already downloaded**: A file saved to their computer before you stopped sharing stays on their computer.
- **Other ways in**: If they're a member of the team folder the item sits in, they can still open it there. Sharing and membership are separate.
- **Public links**: Anyone holding a public link to the file can still use it. Delete the link too if it should stop working.

> To change someone's permission, take them off and share with them again, choosing the new one. The panel has no way to edit a permission in place.
