# Trash settings

Set how many days a deleted item stays in Trash before Nest removes it for good, or turn automatic removal off.

The **Trash** page has one setting, and it decides how long anyone has to change their mind about a deletion.

![The Trash page of Nest's settings, headed Trash, with the line Configure how long trashed files and folders are retained before permanent deletion. Under Retention, the Auto-delete after box reads 60 days, with the note Trashed items will be permanently deleted after this many days. Set to 0 to disable auto-deletion.](https://www.sorviai.com/help/nest/settings/trash-retention.png)

*Deleted items are kept for 60 days in this organisation.*

> **Shortening the limit can remove items straight away**
>
> Anything already older than the new limit is deleted permanently the next time anyone opens Trash. Check Trash for anything worth keeping before you shorten it.

Deleted files count towards the organisation's storage until they're gone, so a very long limit, or none, keeps that space in use.
