# Upload files

Upload one file or many into the folder you have open, from the New button or by dropping them onto the list.

Files go into whichever folder you have open. Open the folder first, then upload, and the files land exactly where you'll look for them.

## From the New button

- Go to **My Folders** and open the folder the files belong in.
- Select **New**, then **Upload files**.

![The New button at the top right of a folder, open to show three choices: Folder, Upload files and, below a divider, Link.](https://www.sorviai.com/help/nest/my-folders/new-menu.png)
- Choose one file or several in the window that opens, and confirm. Hold Ctrl, or Cmd on a Mac, to pick more than one.

## By dropping them on the list

Drag files from your computer onto the folder's list. An orange outline reading **Drop files to upload** appears; let go, and they upload into the folder you have open.

## While it uploads

A small panel at the bottom right counts through the batch, showing **Uploading 1 of 3** and the file in progress with its percentage. When it's finished it reads **3 files uploaded** and clears itself after a few seconds. The files appear in the list, and each one goes to the top of your **Recent Files**.

> **Note:**
>
> **What your organisation accepts**
>
> Your administrator sets the largest file Nest takes and, if they choose, a list of the only types it accepts. A file outside either limit is refused and the panel says why. **A folder or upload is refused** lists the messages.

> **Tip:**
>
> Upload inside a folder rather than on the My Folders page itself. A file uploaded at the very top level belongs to no folder, and it shows at the top of both **My Folders** and **Team Folders** for you, which makes it look shared when it isn't.
