# Find files by label

Open a label to see every file carrying it, from all your folders, and recognise your labels by colour in search results.

A label's list is the reason to label anything. It gathers every file you've tagged with that label into one place, however far apart their folders are.

## Open a label's files

- Go to **Labels**.
- Select the label's name. Its files open in a list headed with the label's colour, its name and how many files it holds.

![The list for the Board label: a purple dot, the name Board and the count 7 files at the top. Beneath it seven files, each with its uploader Eleanor Whitfield: Management Accounts - August 2026.xlsx, Bristol Depot Expansion Proposal.docx, Board Minutes - 21 July 2026.docx, Board Pack - Q2 2026.pdf, Five Year Plan 2027-2031.pdf, Board Minutes - 20 April 2026.docx and Board Pack - Q1 2026.pdf.](https://www.sorviai.com/help/nest/labels/label-files-page.png)

The list works like any other file list in Nest. Select a file to download it, switch between the **Details**, **Grid** and **Compact** views at the top right, and use each row's menu to star, relabel, rename, share or delete the file without leaving the label.

> **Note:**
>
> A label's list shows files that are in use. A labelled file you've moved to Trash leaves the list, and comes back with its labels if you restore it.

## Labels in search results

The search bar doesn't filter by label, but it does show them. Each result carries a small dot for every one of your labels on the file, in that label's colour.

Below it four file results, each with a purple dot, a size and a score: 50.9 KB at 51%, 50.9 KB at 51%, 37.4 KB at 48% and 37.4 KB at 48%.](https://www.sorviai.com/help/nest/labels/search-label-dots.png)

*The purple dots are the Board label. A result with no dot carries none of your labels.*
