# Read search results

What each part of a search result tells you: where the item lives, who added it and when, your labels on it, and how close a match it is.

The results page puts folders first and files second, each group in its own section with a count. Within each, the closest match to what you typed is at the top.

![Search results for board. Under Folders (1), the Board Packs folder with the line 3 files, personal. Under Files (4), Board Pack - Q1 2026.pdf and Board Pack - Q2 2026.pdf, each with the line Board Packs, Eleanor Whitfield and the date added, then Board Minutes - 21 July 2026.docx and Board Minutes - 20 April 2026.docx with the line Board Packs > Minutes, Eleanor Whitfield and the date.](https://www.sorviai.com/help/nest/find-files/result-rows.png)

*The grey line under each file names the folder it's in. Board Packs > Minutes means one folder inside another.*

![The right-hand end of the search results. The Board Packs folder row shows only 50%. The four file rows each show a purple dot, a size and a percentage: 50.9 KB at 51%, 50.9 KB at 51%, 37.4 KB at 48% and 37.4 KB at 48%.](https://www.sorviai.com/help/nest/find-files/result-row-ends.png)

*The purple dots are the Board label. The percentages rank the results, not the files.*

A folder result is shorter: its name, where it sits, how many files it holds, whether it's a personal or a team folder, and its match.

## What's searched

- **Your folders**: Everything in My Folders.
- **Your teams' folders**: Every team folder you belong to, including the folders inside them.
- **Files shared with you**: Files colleagues have shared with you directly. Folders shared with you aren't searched.
- **Not Trash**: Deleted items never appear in search.

> **Note:**
>
> Search shows the 20 closest files and the 20 closest folders. If what you want isn't among them, a more distinctive word or a filter will bring it up.
