# Other Actions in Packages

The packing slip, amending a box before it goes, and finding the ones that never shipped.

Most of the value of the packages list is in what it shows you have NOT done yet.

## On one package

| Action | When it is available |
| --- | --- |
| Print the packing slip | Always. It prints from the package, not from the order |
| Edit the contents | Before a shipment exists against it |
| Delete | Before a shipment exists against it |
| Create a shipment | Once the box is ready to leave |
| Attach a document | Always |

> **A shipped package is fixed**
>
> Once a shipment exists, the contents are part of a stock movement, and editing them would rewrite what left the building. Undo the shipment first, and only if the box genuinely did not go.

## On the list

| Filter | What it answers |
| --- | --- |
| Not shipped | Which boxes are sitting on the bench. This is the important one |
| By customer | Everything waiting to go to one address, which may be worth combining |
| By carrier | What is going out with whom |
| By source document | Whether an order is fully packed yet |

## The one to watch

Packed and not shipped is stock that reads as yours, sits in your valuation, and is physically committed to somebody else. A box more than a day or two old is either waiting on a carrier or has been forgotten.

> **Check it before promising availability**
>
> If a customer asks whether you can send ten today, the item's figure includes anything packed and unshipped. The packages list is where that overstatement is visible.
