# Welcome to Inventory

Every module in SorviAI Inventory, and what each one is for.

Work through SorviAI Inventory one module at a time. Each guide below covers a single job and stops when that job is done.

## Modules

Inventory holds seven modules. Four are groups of related screens; Overview, Reports and Documents are single screens. **All Modules**, at the right of the tab bar, opens the lot.

![The All Modules panel open over the Inventory Overview screen, headed All Modules and Inventory, full menu, with a Search modules box. Columns group the screens: Other Modules holds Overview, Reports and Documents; Items holds Items and Rate Lists; Inventory holds Stock Adjustments, Picklists, Packages, Shipments and Stock Transfers; Sales holds Customers, Sales Orders, Invoices, Payments Received, Credit Notes and Sales Returns; Purchases holds Vendors, Expenses, Purchase Orders, Purchase Receives, Bills, Vendor Payments and Vendor Credits. Every row carries a star, and the foot reads star modules to add them to your favourites and customise your tab view experience, beside a Save button.](https://www.sorviai.com/help/inventory/getting-started/all-modules.png)

*Every screen in Inventory in one panel. Star one to pin it as a tab, then Save.*

- **Items**: The record every quantity is counted against, variants included.
- **Stock Adjustments**: Correcting what the system thinks you hold, with a reason that explains it.
- **Purchase Receives**: What actually turned up, and the document that increases your stock.
- **Shipments**: What left the building, and the moment stock comes off your count.
- **Sales Orders**: What the customer committed to, and the stock it reserves.
- **Packages**: What went into the box, recorded before any of it ships.
- **Customers**: Who you ship to, and the addresses the warehouse works from.
- **Reports**: Stock summary, valuation, warehouse and transfer reads.

> **Note:**
>
> **You only see what your role can open**
>
> Overview, Reports and Documents are open to anyone with Inventory access today. Everything else is permission-gated, so two people in the same organisation can see different menus. A module you expect and cannot find is a permissions question for your administrator, not a setup step you have missed.

## The rest of the menu

These are the screens you reach for less often, but each is the only route to the job it does.

- **Picklists**: What to pull off the shelf for an order, and in what order to walk it.
- **Stock Transfers**: Moving stock between warehouses without selling any of it.
- **Sales Returns**: Goods coming back, and the stock they put back on the shelf.
- **Rate Lists**: Prices that override an item default, per customer or per vendor.
- **Vendors**: Who you buy from, their lead times, and what you have on order.
- **Documents**: Every file attached anywhere in Inventory, against the record it came from.

## Bringing your existing stock across

There is one import in Inventory and it is for items: **Items** then **Import**, which walks a CSV through column mapping and a preview before it writes anything. Opening stock comes across on the same import, as a quantity and a rate per item.

> **Warning:**
>
> **Customers, vendors and open documents are not imported**
>
> No screen imports them. Plan on entering your contacts by hand, or through the API under Settings, and on raising the open sales and purchase orders you are mid-way through on your start date. It is worth knowing before you pick a date rather than after.

## Set up your organisation

These four open the product rather than another guide. Settings is itself permission-gated, so the links work for administrators and for anyone granted settings access.

![Inventory Settings with a left menu grouped under General holding Organisation, Users and Roles, Taxes, Payment Terms, Portal, Email Preferences and Preferences, then Modules holding Sales, Purchases, Items and Inventory, then Customization and Advanced. Organisation is selected and shows tabs reading Profile, Warehouses, Currencies and Number Series. The Profile tab holds an Upload logo control, an Organisation Name reading Ironvale Industry, an Industry picker, an Organisation ID and address fields with Country set to United Kingdom.](https://www.sorviai.com/help/inventory/getting-started/settings-organisation.png)

*Organisation settings and its four tabs. Warehouses is the one to do first.*

- **Organisation profile**: Company details, your logo, warehouses, currencies and number series.
- **Inventory preferences**: Adjustments, variant options, warehouses, stock updates, packages, shipments and transfers.
- **Items**: Item defaults and the units of measure your stock is counted in.
- **Users and roles**: Who has access, and which modules each role can open.

> **Tip:**
>
> **Do warehouses before anything else**
>
> Warehouses live on the Organisation profile, and every stock figure in the product is held per warehouse. Adding one later is easy; splitting a year of movements across a warehouse you should have had from the start is not.
