# Welcome to Finance

Every module in SorviAI Finance, and what each one is for.

Work through SorviAI Finance one module at a time. Each guide below covers a single job and stops when that job is done.

## Modules

Finance holds nine modules. Six of them are groups of related screens; Overview, Reports and Documents are single screens. **All Modules**, at the right of the tab bar, opens the lot.

![The All Modules panel open over the Finance Overview screen, headed All Modules and Finance, full menu, with a Search modules box. Columns group the screens: Other Modules holds Overview, Reports and Documents; Sales holds Customers, Quotes, Sales Orders, Invoices, Recurring Invoices, Advance Invoices, Customer Payments, Credit Notes and Returns; Purchases holds Vendors, Expenses, Recurring Expenses, Purchase Orders, Purchase Receives, Bills, Vendor Payments, Recurring Bills and Vendor Credits; Items holds Items and Rate Lists; Inventory holds Stock Adjustments, Picklists, Packages, Shipments and Stock Transfers; Taxes holds Tax Filing and Tax Payments; Accountant holds Journal Entries, Exchange Adjustments, Accounts Chart and Budget.](https://www.sorviai.com/help/getting-started/all-modules.png)

*Every screen in Finance in one panel. Star one to pin it as a tab.*

- **Customers**: Who you sell to, and the balances and history attached to each of them.
- **Invoices**: The request for payment, and the eight guides around raising and chasing one.
- **Customer Payments**: Recording money in and settling it against the invoices it pays.
- **Items**: The goods and services every document line is built from, variants included.
- **Vendors**: Who you buy from, with their open bills and payment terms in one place.
- **Bills**: What you owe, from entering the vendor invoice through to paying it.
- **Expenses**: Costs with no purchase order behind them, and the receipts that support them.
- **Reports**: Sixty-nine reports in thirteen categories, fifty-five of which are built.

> **Note:**
>
> **You only see what your role can open**
>
> Overview, Reports and Documents are open to anyone with Finance access today. Everything else is permission-gated, so two people in the same organisation can see different menus. A module you expect and cannot find is a permissions question for your administrator, not a setup step you have missed.

## The rest of the menu

The four remaining groups are the ones you reach for less often, but each is the only route to the job it does.

- **Inventory**: Stock adjustments, picklists, packages, shipments and stock transfers.
- **Taxes**: Preparing a return, submitting it, and recording what you pay against it.
- **Accountant**: Journal entries, the accounts chart, budgets and exchange revaluation.
- **Documents**: Every file attached anywhere in Finance, listed against the record it came from.

## Bringing your existing records across

There is one import in Finance and it is for items: **Items** then **Import**, which walks a CSV through column mapping and a preview before it writes anything.

> **Warning:**
>
> **Customers, vendors and open balances are not imported**
>
> No screen imports them. Plan on entering your contacts by hand, or through the API under Settings, and on raising opening invoices and bills for anything unpaid on your start date. It is worth knowing before you pick a date rather than after.

## Quick navigation guide

- **How Finance works**: The two document chains everything else hangs off, and what reaches the ledger.
- **Access Finance**: Signing in, moving between apps, and why your modules may differ from a colleague's.
- **Navigating Finance**: The tab bar, All Modules, the search bar and the two layouts.
- **The Overview dashboard**: The first screen Finance opens on, and what each tile is counting.

## Set up your organisation

These four open the product rather than another guide. Settings is itself permission-gated, so the links work for administrators and for anyone granted settings access.

![Finance Settings with a left menu grouped under General (Organisation, Users and Roles, Taxes, Payment Terms, Portal, Email Preferences, Preferences), Modules (Sales, Purchases, Items, Inventory, Accountant) and Customization (Templates, Tags, Notifications). Organisation is selected and shows tabs reading Profile, Warehouses, Currencies and Number Series. The Profile tab holds an Upload logo control, an Organisation Name field reading Ironvale Industry, an Industry picker, an Organisation ID, and address fields with Country set to United Kingdom.](https://www.sorviai.com/help/getting-started/settings-organisation.png)

*Organisation settings, with its four tabs and the logo upload.*

- **Organisation profile**: Company details, your logo, warehouses, currencies and number series.
- **Users and roles**: Who has access, and which modules each role can open.
- **Taxes**: Tax rates and VAT settings, before you raise anything with tax on it.
- **Templates**: How your invoices and emails look when a customer receives them.

> **Tip:**
>
> **Do the organisation profile first**
>
> Its four tabs feed everything else: the logo and address appear on every document, currencies decide what you can invoice in, and number series set the invoice and bill numbering that is awkward to change once documents exist.
