# Navigating Finance

The tab bar, the All Modules menu, the search bar and the two layouts Finance can wear.

Finance opens on the Overview dashboard with a single tab and one button that reaches everything else. Learn those two, and every module afterwards works the same way.

## Highlights

- **All Modules** is the full menu, and the button sits at the right of the tab bar.
- **Star a module to pin it** as a tab you can return to in one click.
- **Cmd+K, or Ctrl+K**, puts the cursor in the search bar from anywhere.
- **Twenty-seven record types are searchable** by name or by number, in one box.
- **Two layouts**, Modern and Classic, switched in the profile menu.
- **Every list remembers how you left it**: the view you chose and the widths you dragged.

## The screen Finance opens on

![The SorviAI Finance Overview dashboard. A green header carries the app grid, the Finance app pill, a Search in Finance box and the account avatar. Below it a tab bar holds a single Overview tab on the left and an All Modules button on the right. The body shows Total Receivables at zero, Total Payables at 75.9K with all of it overdue, an Income versus Expense chart, Cash Flow with a current balance of 55.4K, Top Expenses and a Quotes Heatmap.](https://www.sorviai.com/help/getting-started/finance-overview.png)

*One tab to start with, and All Modules at the right of the tab bar.*

## All Modules

**All Modules** opens the full Finance menu, grouped exactly as the product is organised, with a search box across the top for finding a screen by name.

![The All Modules panel open over the Overview screen, headed All Modules and Finance, full menu, with a Search modules box. Columns group the screens: Other Modules holds Overview, Reports and Documents; Sales holds Customers, Quotes, Sales Orders, Invoices, Recurring Invoices, Advance Invoices, Customer Payments, Credit Notes and Returns; Purchases holds Vendors, Expenses, Recurring Expenses, Purchase Orders, Purchase Receives, Bills, Vendor Payments, Recurring Bills and Vendor Credits; Items holds Items and Rate Lists; Inventory holds Stock Adjustments, Picklists, Packages, Shipments and Stock Transfers; Taxes holds Tax Filing and Tax Payments; Accountant holds Journal Entries, Exchange Adjustments, Accounts Chart and Budget. Every row carries a star. The foot reads: Star modules to add them to your favourites and customise your tab view experience, with a Save button.](https://www.sorviai.com/help/getting-started/all-modules.png)

*Every screen in Finance, in one panel. The star beside each one pins it as a tab.*

| Group | Screens |
| --- | --- |
| Other Modules | Overview, Reports, Documents |
| Sales | Nine, from Customers through to Returns |
| Purchases | Nine, from Vendors through to Vendor Credits |
| Items | Items and Rate Lists |
| Inventory | Stock Adjustments, Picklists, Packages, Shipments, Stock Transfers |
| Taxes | Tax Filing and Tax Payments |
| Accountant | Journal Entries, Exchange Adjustments, Accounts Chart, Budget |

> **Tip:**
>
> **Star the five or six you live in**
>
> Starred modules become tabs, so the screens you use daily are one click away and All Modules becomes the place you go for the rest. Press **Save** when you are done starring; the panel does not apply the change on its own.

## Two layouts

Finance ships two navigation shapes and remembers which you chose. Both reach the same screens.

**Modern** (the default)

- Yes: A tab bar across the top
- Yes: All Modules for the full menu
- Yes: Starred modules become tabs
- No: A permanent list of every module on screen

**Classic**

- Yes: A left sidebar listing every module
- Yes: Groups expand in place
- Yes: Drag a module to reorder it
- No: Tabs across the top

Both live under your avatar at the top right, beside the light and dark theme switch. The choice is remembered in your browser rather than on your account.

> **Note:**
>
> **Which one the rest of these guides assume**
>
> Where a guide says "go to Bills", either route gets you there: **All Modules** then **Bills** in the Modern layout, or **Purchases** then **Bills** in the sidebar under Classic.

## The search bar

The search bar sits in the header on every screen, and its placeholder tells you where you are: **Search in Finance** on the dashboard, **Search in Invoices** once you are on the invoice list. What it searches does not change with the screen.

![The header search box holding the word Pennine, with a results panel open beneath it headed Finance. Results read Pennine Hydraulics Ltd labelled Customer, CN-00004 for Pennine Hydraulics Ltd labelled Credit Note at 264.00, PAY-00020 labelled Payment Received at 251.07, PAY-00014 labelled Payment Received at 5,061.00, and INV-00034 labelled Invoice at 5,061.00.](https://www.sorviai.com/help/getting-started/search-results.png)

*One query, several record types. Each result is labelled with the kind of record it is.*

- **Press Cmd+K, or Ctrl+K**

Focus lands in the search bar from wherever you were. Escape gives it back.
- **Type a name or a number**

Part of either will do. A customer name finds the contact and the documents raised against them at the same time.
- **Select a result**

It opens the record itself, not a filtered list containing it.

| What you can search for | Examples |
| --- | --- |
| Contacts | Customers and vendors, by name |
| Sales documents | Quotes, sales orders, invoices, recurring and advance invoices, credit notes |
| Purchase documents | Purchase orders, purchase receives, bills, recurring bills, vendor credits |
| Money | Customer payments, vendor payments, expenses, recurring expenses |
| Accounting | Chart of accounts, journal entries you posted by hand, currency adjustments |
| Stock | Items, adjustments, transfers, packages, shipments, returns, pricebooks |

> **Note:**
>
> **Journal entries only find the ones you wrote**
>
> Search returns manual journals. The entries Finance posts for itself behind an invoice or a bill are not in the results, which is deliberate: they are consequences of a document you can already find, not records anybody goes looking for by name.

## List screens

Every module opens on a list, and every list works the same way: filter it, sort it by clicking a column, search within it, and open a row.

![The Invoices list under a tab reading Invoices. A heading reads Invoices with the subtitle Manage and track all invoices across your organization, and a blue Invoice button sits at the top right. Below are list and grid view icons and an All filter. The table columns are Date, INV number, Reference Number, Customer, Status, Amount, Balance Due, Due Date and Created. Status values include Paid, Overdue by 24 days, Partially Paid and Draft. The foot reads Showing 1 to 25 of 34 results with a rows-per-page control.](https://www.sorviai.com/help/getting-started/invoices-list.png)

*A list screen: view switch and filters above, sortable columns, and paging at the foot.*

- **The view you chose**: List or grid, remembered per module. Picklists can stay in grid while Invoices stays in list.
- **The widths you dragged**: Drag a column edge and that width is kept for that list, on that browser.
- **Where you were**: Come back from a record and the list is as you left it rather than reset to the first page.

> **Warning:**
>
> **These are remembered in your browser, not on your account**
>
> The layout you chose, the theme, your starred modules, your column widths: all of it is per browser. A different computer, or a private window, starts from the defaults.

## Moving between apps

Finance is one app in the SorviAI suite. The grid at the far left of the header opens the App Center, which is also where you land when you sign in.

![The App Center headed Welcome, Ironvale! Seven cards each carry an icon, a name and a line of description: Finance, run the money side of the business; Inventory, know what stock you hold; TeamEmail, one shared mailbox; Repairs, take a device in and follow the work done on it; POS, sell across the counter; Worklink, everything to do with your people; and Nest, a private space for the team.](https://www.sorviai.com/help/getting-started/app-center.png)

*Only the apps your workspace has, and that you have been granted, appear here.*

Records are shared rather than copied: a customer, an item or a document created in Finance is the same record in Inventory, not a second copy of it.

> **Tip:**
>
> **Pin the apps you actually use**
>
> Up to five can be pinned as favourites, and those sit in the header where you can reach them without opening the App Center first.
